The Running of the Bulls

"This is like the running of the bulls." That's what I heard a fellow commuter say when we stampeded to catch the delayed 5:51 p.m. train today. Interesting analogy, I thought, as I boarded the train. The running of the bulls refers to the event that takes place in Spain, in Pamplona specifically. Spain was also in my mind recently, as I just returned from a short vacation in Madrid and I was able to take the "Ave" (Alta Velocidad EspaƱola) train from the capital of Spain to Segovia. It took only 25 minutes to travel the 50+ miles that separate Madrid from the city of the aqueduct. I could not help but to reminisce with longing about the efficient, fast and reliable train system that they have over there, as I approached Union Station this evening, only to meet a "delayed" message on the marquee.

Today, due to an unspecified cause, we were fifteen minutes late. If I haven't posted lately it's not because we haven't endured any delays; but rather to the fact that, although highly annoying, they haven't been substancial enough to get me to go online to write. Still, with the summer season upon us, this is bound to change. Speed reductions due to the heat have already begun to be announced. It'll only get worse.
